COVID-19
We've worked extremely hard to adapt and prepare the hostel to offer a safe and secure environment and to minimise the risk of transmission of the coronavirus. The following information is to help you plan and prepare for your stay.
The dining room/ TV room/ drying room will be open with social distancing limits applied.
What are you doing to keep surfaces virus-free?
We are increasing the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting all areas of the hostel, with a particular focus on high-frequency touch points, using Covid-19 secure chemicals and in line with the official public health guidance. We have sanitisers and disinfectants in every dorm.
Do we have to fill out a registration form? Yes - We will collect the contact details of our guests, staff and visitors. A Mobile contact from the main leader of your party is a must – we ask all guests and staff to scan the NHS track and trace which is dotted all around the hostel.
How are you keeping people apart throughout the hostel?
Signage and floor markings are in place to help guests observe the Government’s social distancing guidance throughout the hostel. Where the layout of a property allows, we will have one-way travel, in corridors where it may not be possible to pass at 1+ metres distance, please allow others to come down corridors before entering.
Will my room be cleaned mid-stay?
Yes/No unless needed to do so, a member of staff may need to enter your dormitory to collect bedding / sanitise after check – out.
Sole Use / Exclusive use of the Hostel (MIDWEEK)
Your party has exclusive use of our hostel building, you will have full access to any communal areas, such as self-catering kitchen, dining room, lounge, drying room’s field etc.
It will be your private space for the duration of the booking. We will only enter the building for time slotted cleaning and for any maintenance. We will notify you in advance if this is due to take place.
Check-in time is from 2pm until 5.00pm, but guests are welcome to drop off luggage and leave their car or bags from 10:00am onwards.
Please sanitise your hands at one of the sanitiser points by the main doors, each time you enter the building.
Check-out time is 10:00am - On check out we will need you to:
- Strip your bedding and leave it in your room – this reduces the risk to our housekeeping staff.
- Leave windows open for ventilation.
Please do not travel if you are ill. All bookings have free cancellation, up to 24 hours prior to arrival (up until midday on the day before check in), so if you are unwell, it is important you do not travel and cancel your booking. Risk Assessments/General Issues.
Fire
Our “Fire Action Plan” is clearly displayed and staff attend fire training drills. Fire extinguishers are provided at all exits and in higher risk areas (e.g. the kitchen). Fire exits and escape routes are clearly marked. We have a comprehensive alarm and emergency lighting system. All fire appliances are regularly checked (extinguishers and alarm weekly, emergency lights monthly) and maintained and we have regular contact with the local Fire Officer. Note that our mattresses are not fire resistant; whilst we are in the process of replacing them we strictly enforce our no smoking policy in the rooms. Denton House has a Fire Certificate.
Electrical Safety
All portable appliances are checked annually for electrical safety. Weekly site checks also pick up on damage to electrical equipment. Sockets and wiring are checked by a qualified electrician every three years. All maintenance work on equipment, sockets and wiring is carried out by a qualified electrician.
Gas
Our gas appliances are serviced annually and permanently maintained by Gasforce. We have removed gas heaters from rooms and replaced with safer electric heaters. We follow HSE guidelines on the use of gas ranges and clearly display emergency contact numbers. There are also safety instructions displayed next to each gas oven.
General Site Health and Safety
The site is inspected every Monday morning for damage of all types. Any Health and Safety issue will be reported immediately to our Maintenance Supervisor or Site Manager.
Denton House Domestic and Maintenance Staff:
Our staff receive ongoing, supervisory training in safe working practices. Lone working is discouraged but any staff who must do so must contact a Manager when their shift ends. Maintenance work including the use of power tools or ladders must not be carried out by lone workers.
We are a 7 minute walk into Keswick town centre with ample free parking at Denton House.
There is a local spar directly next door which stocks all the necessities you may need & a pub 500 yards down the road.
The town centre itself has many lovely bars, restaurants & pubs, many providing live entertainment. There are also several Indian, Chinese & Italian/pizza takeaways.
We hope you enjoy your stay, please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other queries.
Many thanks,
The Denton House team.
